The One Phrase that May Just Transform Your Definition and Idea of Self-care

Self-care is a personalized and individual daily routine that emphasizes that you are worth it. Self-care is something that looks and feels different for each person, and because you know yourself better than anyone else, no one else can tell you what your self-care routine must include. What I can tell you is that self-care is something that, for me, has been evolving and something I have to truly focus on. It doesn’t always come naturally, as most of us are living busy lives and, often times, just trying to get by.

Not too long ago, I read a phrase that made me pause, reflect, and reframe my definition of self-care. The phrase has you ask yourself how you can best support yourself in this moment. That’s it. Stopping and asking myself, “How can I best support myself in this moment,” has completely transformed the way I view my own self-care, and how I choose to live my life.

This phrase can translate into so many areas of life, including setting boundaries with others, acknowledging your own needs and, in turn, communicating them, and truly grasping the fact that you are worth it. My own therapist once asked me, “If you don’t take care of you, who will?” I will, and I will do this by reminding myself of exactly what I need in this moment.
